Scarlet Fever was thrilled to play the wedding reception for Katie Trabue and Logan Williams on June 28, 2021 at The Country Club at Muirfield Village.
Members of the wedding party joked that this was Katie & Logan’s third wedding, the pandemic having pushed back their planned dates two times before. We felt their pain; it seemed like every week in 2020, an email came in cancelling another wedding we had booked. Just about everyone has a similar story from pandemic-times, many worse than ours. I can only say that I was looking forward to playing for a wedding crowd again (almost?) as much as Katie & Logan were looking forward to having their friends and family come together to celebrate their marriage.
When I heard that they specially requested The Blues Brothers’ version of Everybody Needs Somebody, I laughed out loud, because I’d been making the “We’re getting the band back together!” joke for months prior to this date.
To those younger than I am, this is a Blues Brothers reference, not Phineas & Ferb. But, no judgement, my young friends.
I adore that movie, as do most musicians, I’m willing to bet. To the point, though, it was such a terrific experience to have all of the Scarlet Fever members back together again. As soon as we started our first song, a smile washed over my face that I was unable to erase for the rest of the night.
For me, playing guitar is always fun. Sharing a musical experience with friends is twice as good; sharing a musical experience with friends who are extremely talented musicians is exponentially better. And, as I’ve written about too many times to mention, getting to do all that while happy people dance and have a great time... well... that’s the best thing in the world.
Everybody needs somebody. People need their families and friends to support them during the major events in their lives. We all needed our families and friends to support us during the last year and a half of craziness. When we’re lucky enough to find the romantic partner with whom we want to spend the rest of our days, we should celebrate each day that they need us as much as we need them.
When I have a guitar in my hands, the somebodies I need are music-loving people filling the dance floor, and Katie and Logan’s wedding’s provided that and more. For that, I offer profound thanks as well as congratulations to the happy couple!
To everyone out there who had to reschedule weddings and other major events, I offer my shared joy that we’re finally back to mostly normal again. I’m thrilled that you will also get to share your love and happiness with the somebodies you need. As for us, we got the band back together. Jake & Elwood would be proud. Probably Phineas & Ferb too; I’ll have to ask my kids to check.
